Wicked (A Wicked Saga #1)
By: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Publication Date: December 8th, 2014
Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.
Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she losteverything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.
But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
By the time this review is posted, it will be less than twenty-four hours until Tuesday. What does that mean? The book I have been waiting for for literally years is going to be released: Torn. Because of the monumentous event, I felt it was high time that I re-read Wicked so that my body would be fully ready for the sequel. And that means you, dear reader, get a review.
As with all JLA books, I expected Wicked to have its hilarious and sassy and steamy moments. The book did not disappoint. Ivy’s internal monologue was just as normal and hilarious and relatable as JLA other leading ladies and Ren was yet another JLA man you can’t help but fall in love with. Tink was a sassy pixie sidekick, don’t tell him that, and I loved his obsession with sweets and his endearing asshole-ness that dwarfed his petite form.
As for the plot, JLA once again takes a page from mythology and tricks it out with her own brand of unique creativity. These fae feel familiar and yet are nothing like I’ve ever seen and the same goes for the world of the Order and the mythos behind it. The overall story with its twists and turns and new adult steamy touches and cruel as Hell CLIFFHANGER made for an excellent read that means the year and a half I have been waiting on Torn has been torture.
Bottom line: go read this ASAP. It is also on sale right now, so no excuses. You’ll probably finish it in a day and then be all set for a binge reading session come Tuesday morning. If you do nothing all day, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
