Project Pandora (Assassin Fall #1)
By: Aden Polydoros
Publication Date: August 1st, 2017
Tyler Bennett trusts no one. Just another foster kid bounced from home to home, he’s learned that lesson the hard way. Cue world’s tiniest violin. But when strange things start happening—waking up with bloody knuckles and no memory of the night before or the burner phone he can’t let out of his sight— Tyler starts to wonder if he can even trust himself.
Even stranger, the girl he’s falling for has a burner phone just like his. Finding out what’s really happening only leads to more questions…questions that could get them both killed. It’s not like someone’s kidnapping teens lost in the system and brainwashing them to be assassins or anything, right? And what happens to rogue assets who defy control?
In a race against the clock, they’ll have to uncover the truth behind Project Pandora and take it down—before they’re reactivated. Good thing the program spent millions training them to kick ass…
Name: Tyler Bennett
Likes: Warm weather, summer, track, helping people
Dislikes: Losing control, being manipulated, hurting people
Aspirations: Tyler wants to join the ROTC. Of course, it’s a little too late for that…
Background: Tyler was raised in the foster system. He has passed through so many homes, he’s lost count. He knows that it’s only a matter of time before he leaves this one, too.
Personality: Tyler believes in honor and commitment. When faced with a problem he can’t run from, he tries to face it head on. Sometimes, there isn’t an alternative. He also gains satisfaction from helping people, although lately, he’s been doing quite the opposite…
Quote: “I know what you made me do. I can’t remember it all, but I’m going to remember, and when I do, I swear, you’ll fry for it.”
Name: Shannon Evans
Likes: rock music, rats, the city, watching movies
Dislikes: places that are too quiet, doctor offices, snobs
Aspirations: Shannon doesn’t really have any aspirations. She is content with living in the present, and doesn’t like to think about the future. She isn’t dead-set on a goal, and would prefer to just worry about passing finals.
Background: She doesn’t think her past is important. So what if she’s a foster kid? The past means even less than the future. The only thing that matters is the present, and she’s determined to enjoy every minute of it.
Personality: Shannon is confident and not afraid to speak her mind. As far as she’s concerned, if she has something to say, she’s damn well going to say it. If someone disapproves, she’ll deal with the consequence when she gets to it.
Name: Elizabeth Hawthorne
Likes: volleyball, music, dances, forget-me-nots
Dislikes: her parents’ expectations, bad dreams, politicians
Aspirations: Her aspirations don’t matter, not when her parents have outlined her entire future. She knows that she will go to college and get a degree in political science. There is no other alternative.
Background: Elizabeth is the daughter of state senator Lawrence Hawthorne, born into a powerful political family. She is expected to behave with grace and restraint, never stepping outside the boundaries her parents have built for her. They even police what she wears, and ever since the car accident two years ago, have blocked her from driving.
Personality: Elizabeth tries her best to meet her parents’ expectations. She is friendly and gracious. When she must be quiet and proper, she will step back and allow others to speak over her. When she must regurgitate her father’s political agenda, she will do so without skipping a beat. But she hates it, and she wants more than the future her parents have laid out for her.
Quote: “Do you think anybody there cares if I have a boyfriend? Or that I go out? That I date? That I wear clothes I want to wear instead of this dumb granny dress? You’re so worried about your stupid election you don’t let me do anything. Don’t you get it? I’m not a little kid. I’m seventeen!”
Name: N/A; his codename is Hades
Age: 17. He does not know his real DOB, only that he was born in January. At the Academy, there are no such thing as birthdays—only production dates.
Likes: Guns, weapons, weightlifting, food, his dogs
Dislikes: Small dark spaces, the tank, smoking, needles, drugs, people
Aspirations: He once dreamed of becoming a great military leader. That was supposed to be his future. But that doesn’t matter anymore. He will never be a soldier, only a killer. And the kill is everything now.
Background: Hades knows about his past at the Academy only because it was told to him. He does not know if those stories are real. Everything before the age of fifteen has been erased from his mind. He knows how to fight, but he cannot recall who taught him. He was once fluent in multiple languages, but he has forgotten so much already, and day by day, his grasp on linguistics has begun to falter. He wonders if he’ll eventually forget English.
Personality: Most of the time, he has to feign emotions. It’s easy to smile and greet someone pleasantly, even if he feels dead inside. But when he kills, he feels something.
Quote: “Who needs names? They’re proof of ownership, you know.”
