The Never Tilting World (The Never Tilting World #1)

Publisher: HarperTeen

Publication Date: October 15th, 2019

Frozen meets Mad Max in this epic teen fantasy duology bursting with star-crossed romance, immortal heroines, and elemental magic, perfect for fans of Furyborn.

Generations of twin goddesses have long ruled Aeon. But seventeen years ago, one sister’s betrayal defied an ancient prophecy and split their world in two. The planet ceased to spin, and a Great Abyss now divides two realms: one cloaked in perpetual night, the other scorched by an unrelenting sun.

While one sister rules Aranth—a frozen city surrounded by a storm-wracked sea —her twin inhabits the sand-locked Golden City. Each goddess has raised a daughter, and each keeps her own secrets about her sister’s betrayal.

But when shadowy forces begin to call their daughters, Odessa and Haidee, back to the site of the Breaking, the two young goddesses —along with a powerful healer from Aranth, and a mouthy desert scavenger —set out on separate journeys across treacherous wastelands, desperate to heal their broken world. No matter the sacrifice it demands.

Meet the Characters

Meet Haidee! The world’s smartest tinkerer / mechanika. The global population may have been heavily decimated enough that only one city exists in their side of the world, that doesn’t mean Haidee doesn’t deserve the title. A genius when it comes to all things mechanical, she’s taken to designing and constructing life-saving automata from scratch, aiding her mother in protecting and defending the Golden City from the seemingly malevolent ghost-mirages that haunt their borders. But ever the optimist, Haidee believes that she can do more for the world beyond the boundaries of her city, and is convinced that the secret to healing the world that seems irrevocably broken lies at its center – at the Great Abyss, the dreaded chasm that served as the ground zero for the world’s breaking. Monsters and demons of untold horrors are said to be lurking there – but Haidee believes it’s worth the risk.

Meet Odessa! The young goddess of Aranth, a city cloaked in perpetual night. Beset at all corners by rising waves and destructive ice floes, she’s spent most of her life within the city’s tower because of a strange sickness that seems to have no cure. Determined to be more than what her frail health allows her to be, she has started to rebel in small ways – from protecting and reinforcing the city’s defenses on her own, to sneaking out into the city on her own, to entering into a very-absolutely-forbidden relationship with the girl of her dreams. But when the abyss’ demons come seeking her out, enticing her with a possible cure and a way to increase her powers to protect everyone, Odessa makes a dark decision that may either give her the power to save Aeon – or destroy it completely.

Meet Lan! The ranger-healer who’s just as adept at inflicting you with poisons as curing you from them – and her gruff, grouchy attitude ensures that she’s more likely to do the first than the second. As one of Aranth’s most skilled warriors, she’s taken on a lot of responsibility, and takes things personally – and hard. A previous expedition she led to investigate the Great Abyss had ended in disaster, leaving her the only survivor with a psyche full of trauma. But her goddess isn’t done with her services just yet, and Lan may be forced to return to the site of her worst nightmares – Aranth is in peril, and the only way to save it might lie at the heart of the abyss. To complicate matters, she somehow manages to fall for the wrong girl – who turns out to be the last person she should be in love with.

Meet Arjun! Every time I’m asked to describe Arjun I always call him a Hufflepuff who’s convinced he’s a Gryffindor – but that’s because the description is especially apt when it comes to him. Born and ekeing out an existence in the harsh desert climate, he’s been raised to believe that the goddesses are the cause of the breaking of Aeon, tearing the world into a permanent night and day. While he’s itching for the chance to kill Latona, the older goddess he deems responsible for everything, his resolve tends to falter when it comes to the goddess’ daughter, Haidee. A trash talker and the owner of a very smart mouth, Arjun would like you to believe that he cares about no one beyond his ragtag desert family, that it’s everyone for themselves. Unfortunately, his bark is worse than his bite, and he’s not even very  convincing at that.

Despite an unsettling resemblance to Japanese revenants, Rin always maintains her sense of hummus. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she keeps four pets: a dog, two birds, and a husband. Dances like the neighbors are watching.

She is represented by Rebecca Podos of the Helen Rees Agency. She is also fond of speaking in the third person, and may as well finish this short bio in this manner. While she does not always get to check her Goodreads page, she does answer questions posed to her here as promptly as she is able to.
