Triumph of Chaos (Red Magic #3)
By: Jen McConnel
Publication Date: March 8th, 2016
After the disaster in Europe, Darlena’s starting to get desperate. She knows the only way to defeat Hecate and the other crazy Red Gods is by banding together with other Witches, but is it any wonder she has a hard time trusting them?
With Izzy’s support, Darlena begins making fragile strides toward repairing the mess she made, but she just can’t catch a break. As chaos runs rampant around her, Darlena begins to think that things would be better if she’d never become a Red Witch in the first place. But there’s no way to change the past…is there?
The final book in the Red Magic series brings Darlena face to face with impossible odds, and a terrifying choice.
Lena has a lot on her plate. Her not very best friend is not as very dead as she thought, the world is about to end, and she has decided to form a Coven. Also, Marcus, the boy who’s death she feels responsible for and might possibly have had feelings for, may be haunting her. That, or she’s going crazy.
Throughout Triumph of Chaos, Lena is constantly challenged and in the face of such problems, she remains a character that I greatly enjoy. She is fierce and a little cranky, but after all she has been through, I think she has a right to be. She has dealt with a lot of loss, and she deals with even more in this book, and her reactions to all of it have been realistic and are a credit to Jen’s writing. Lena also has the sense to put romance on the back burner. She recognizes that she doesn’t know what she really wants just yet and that, with everything else going on, it may be best to not worry about any of that right now.
Going into this book, I knew it was the conclusion to the Red Magic series. With such an ending, though, I can’t help but think there is more to be told with the story. So much happens in this installment that it avoids any lapses and ends on a middling cliff hanger. I want to see so much more though! I want to see how Lena interacts with her new patron and the new character that the ending brings up.
